Croy Engineering worked with the City of Smyrna & the Keep Smyrna Beautiful (KSB) Department on site selection, design and construction administration of the new Recycling Center located at 3475 Lake Drive on the .941 acre property that was formerly the Lance Oil Company. The new Center replaces the old facility on Smyrna Hill Drive. The growing positive public response to the original center and the addition of new materials to the collection stream led to a need for a bigger facility with a better traffic flow.
The former Lance Oil property was well suited for the center because of its size, central location and existing usable warehouse and office space. Part of the development process included KSB staff, City administration, and Croy personnel researching the layout and features of other successful drop-off centers in Roswell, Sandy Springs and Snellville. Croy Engineering worked with staff to determine workable design for traffic flow and efficient material handling. They also reconfigured the office space to accommodate public access, storage and ADA specifications, and allowed space for baling equipment and materials storage. New equipment that sorts and bales makes it possible for the Center to accept a wider range of plastics.
The exterior received a complete makeover with a new entry facade in keeping with other City buildings, decorative fencing, and extensive landscaping. The Center’s total square footage is 7,200. The total project cost was $1.5 million.
