Madison County has priority/preemption hardware and software installed at a number of intersections on US 72 to facilitate access to and between medical emergency facilities. To make further enhancements to this operation and to plan for upgrading older equipment, Madison County contracted with Croy Engineering to perform a comprehensive inventory of existing traffic signal equipment at 37 signalized intersections.

The project scope consisted of the following:

  • Performing a physical inspection at all signalized intersections to collect data on type and placement of equipment, both on the street and in the cabinet (e.g. height of signal heads above the roadway).
  • Developing plans to show equipment and phasing
  • Identifying locations where the signal equipment does not meet current MUTCD standards
  • Preparing multi-year implementation strategy, with cost estimates, to meet Madison County objectives
