Big Shanty Connector

Multi-Lane Connector Project Increases Connectivity Between Two Major Regional Activity Centers

The Big Shanty Connector provides an additional multi-lane connector under Interstate 75 (I-75) in the Chastain Road/Barrett Parkway area of Cobb County. This project greatly increases the connectivity between Kennesaw State University (KSU) and Town Center Mall, two major regional activity centers.

In addition, the connector provides congestion relief to the existing interchanges on I-75 at both Barrett Parkway and Chastain Road. Town Center Area CID (Town Center CID) provided the preliminary engineering funding for the entire corridor. The three phases of the project received construction funding from GDOT, Cobb County SPLOST, and Town Center CID.

Along with the necessary preliminary, right-of-way, and final design activities required to construct the project, our Croy team prepared and received GDOT approval of a project concept report. Although the project involved three separate phases with different funding sources, the concept report was prepared to cover the entire corridor. This required extensive coordination with all parties involved resulting in a seamless progression between each phase.
