Henry County Airport

Award-Winning Taxiway Extension Project Delivered Under Tight Timeline

Croy provides on-call engineering services for Henry County under a five-year contract for capital improvements to the Henry County Airport. Projects have included airfield re-marking design, bidding, and construction; 1,000-foot runway and parallel taxiway extension and runway widening; and Mt. Pleasant Road relocation around Runway 24 protection zone along with associated land acquisition. Most recently, Croy joined Henry County officials for the groundbreaking of the airport’s new terminal building.

In April 2012, Croy transitioned as Henry County’s aviation design consultant for its airfield re-marking. The County required that the re-marking be completed before Labor Day weekend in 2012. Croy completed the design, bidding, and construction in August 2012 – meeting the scheduled deadline.
Subsequently, Croy was tasked with the airport’s proposed 1,000-foot runway and parallel taxiway extension and runway widening from 75 feet to 100 feet.  The County required that construction be completed before the NASCAR race scheduled for Labor Day weekend in 2013.

Croy formulated and met an aggressive design schedule including milestone dates throughout the design and bidding process. By value engineering the design, and ensuring that the County would maximize the development of the airport with the available funds, the project was substantially completed by July 31, 2013.

The runway and parallel taxiway extension project was honored as the “General Aviation Project of the Year” at the 2013 Georgia Airports Association Conference and Expo.
