Kennesaw Depot Park & Piedmont Bank Amphitheater

Croy Updated the Original Depot Park Master Plan Adopted in 2008

Depot Park is located in historic downtown Kennesaw and encompasses roughly 12.5 acres. A shared-use path connects the main park south through a planned townhome development. The concept for Depot Park began decades ago, and it is a part of a larger effort to revitalize downtown Kennesaw. The design and construction of this project will span multiple years in a 12-phase plan.

In 2015, Croy started to update the original Depot Park Master Plan adopted in 2008. The master plan needed to be updated due to many program changes, and Croy met with the City of Kennesaw to determine possible program elements. The concept plan process explored campus options, including linkages to the nearby Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, and incorporated proposed street system improvements.

The project has required land acquisition and hydrology analysis, replacement of the existing stormwater culvert under the railroad, and upgrades to the stormwater drainage system downstream. Croy obtained the necessary permits and approvals for future park improvements, including wetland mitigation. This area is an important natural feature that will be an enhanced backdrop for the amphitheater and other park amenities. The park also underwent landscape planting, grading, and utility work.

The park includes parking, a meadow area with trails, a plaza intended to serve as event space for activities, and an amphitheater designed with a stage and elevated viewing structure. The park will also feature public art installations, which will be added during later phases. Additionally, Croy is designing a stormwater management facility to accommodate the park improvements and the adjacent residential development.

Recently, Croy joined the City of Kennesaw and its community for the 2024 ribbon-cutting ceremony of the park’s grand opening for Piedmont Bank Amphitheater. The grand opening also signifies the completion of phase eight in the master plan, which includes a 50-foot by 42-foot stage with a back of house and lawn space to hold up to 3,000 people. Many events will be hosted there, including concerts, Salute to America, A Day with Santa, and several other City-led events throughout the year. Being able to host more events in this area and new downtown greenspace will enhance the community and create a sense of place amongst residents. The amphitheater is a bonus for residents and businesses, attracting more visitors to the city.
