New Diamond Interchange Provides Improved Access and Congestion Relief
The new Ridgewalk Parkway diamond interchange brings improved access and congestion relief between Interstate 575 and the City of Woodstock between the existing Towne Lake Parkway and Sixes Road exits. Along with the interchange design, a 1.5 mile auxiliary/passing lane was added for southbound vehicles. The auxiliary/passing lane took advantage of an existing oversized full-depth shoulder, which helped minimize the need for any additional right-of-way. Now complete, the lane connects the newly constructed Ridgewalk Parkway with Towne Lake Parkway providing traffic relief during the morning commute.
For the project, our Croy team prepared and obtained approval of the Interchange Justification Report (IJR) for the new interchange and auxiliary lanes. The IJR required an Alternative Analysis, which evaluated more than 20 alternatives and required extensive negotiation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). In addition, Croy completed the NEPA environmental process and obtained the approved Environmental Assessment with the result of a Finding of No Significant Impact.
