SR 280 Corridor Development Study

Recommendations Identified for Multi-Modal and Access Management Improvements Along Key Corridor

State Route 280 (SR 280), or South Cobb Drive, is an important regional corridor in the City of Smyrna. It plays a significant role for accessibility within the City of Smyrna, while also providing connectivity between the major east-west roadways of Windy Hill and Concord Roads.

The primary objective of this study was to develop concepts for improving the corridor that provide safe and efficient travel, along with transit options, for all users. As a primarily vehicular corridor, alternative concepts were developed to maintain efficient traffic operations while promoting walking and bicycling. Because the Cobb LINC Route #20 bus line operates on South Cobb Drive, enhancing transit service and utilization was another objective of this study. The study also identified the opportunity to utilize excess right-of-way for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), other transit methods.

The final report for the study listed short-term, intermediate, and long-term recommendations for the corridor, as well as policy recommendations. The corridor improvement concepts also explored opportunities for landscape, streetscape, and other elements to enhance a sense of place. With the ultimate improvement plans focused on benefiting the citizens of Smyrna, the public was engaged throughout the process, providing input at both public meetings and through the project website.
